Masala Idli
Here is a snack using leftover idlis..
Ingredients:
- Idli - 5 nos
- Onion - 1, finely chopped
- Chopped capsicum - 1/4 cup
- Finely chopped ginger - 1 tsp
- Grated coconut - 1/4 cup
- Dried red chilli - 1
- Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
- Urad dal - 1 tsp
- Chopped green chilli - 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
- Red chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
- Asafoetida/hing - a pinch
- Curry leaves - 1 spring
- Salt - as needed
- Oil - as needed
- Cut idlis into cubes and set aside.In a pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds.Let it splutter . Add dried red chilli and urad dal.Fry for few seconds.
- Next add chopped ginger and fry until the raw smell is gone.Add in chopped onion along with chopped green chilli, curry leaves, enough salt and saute till the onion becomes translucent.
- To this, add grated coconut and fry until it becomes golden brown in colour. Add in turmeric powder, red chilli powder and asafoetida.Fry for few seconds and throw in chopped capsicum.
- Cook for 1-2 minutes.Finally, add cubed idli and mix well.Taste check for salt and add more if needed.Cover and cook in low flame for 2-3 minutes.Switch off the flame and serve hot.
